Hi,
Thanks to all those who took part in our last 'cog wheel' challenge.
This week I bring you a Scottish castle. Eilean Donan castle is on in the North West of Scotland and, although it has been there since the 13th century, the castle we see today was actually rebuilt in the early 1900s. It is situated where three sea lochs meet. It is a lovely place to visit at any time, but can you show us what it might look like later in the day when the tide comes in?
The “rules”:
* Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc
* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".
* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
* The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only. Sorry to emphasise this, but the image is not for use elsewhere.
To download the image below, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. I've made the background transparent to save you cutting it out. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun.
Dave

So you were there too, K, with your camera, enjoying the tranquility.

Jacob,
I have never been there but Photoshop was there. 😂
I do enjoy anything tranquil these days!

Oh nicely done. I have a feeling that this is a popular view point, and that there are a good collection of similar images to borrow from. Your result is excellent.

Very well done K. What approach did you use to get this effect?

Dean, hi.
As Trevor pointed out, finding source images is half the battle.
From there, I had to make many adjustments to blend with Dave’s starting image.
Layer masking played a big part.
I also raised the tide a bit by Transforming selections and masking.

Thanks K.
I agree finding source images that suit is a big part of the challenge.

I've just noticed that the reflected flag is different to the flying flag. What witchcraft is this ?!! 🙂

Yes, Dave I moved the reflected flag.
The source image was similar but not exactly the same vantage point as your image.
My thoughts, I needed to move the flag over.
No, Yes???

It was the colour that I noticed K. The flag is blue with a white diagonal cross (the flag of Scotland). The reflection appears to be white with a red conventional cross (flag of England)?

Dave, I did not recolor the reflected flag. It’s blueish not red.
I just checked my psd file. Shown here is the zoom view at 200%.
It's blue/white.
Maybe it's the nearby reddish/brown rocks you are seeing. ???

You're right K - at standard size it looked like a larger flag with a band across it. My mistake 🙂

Welcome to SFTW MrPW. Those wind turbines are appearing everywhere. I notice that the jets have been out drawing Scottish flags in the sky 🙂
