We had some great images and interpretations of our last Loch Ness challenge. Thanks to all who took part.
This week, rather than a scene, we have a spanner, or wrench for those on the western side of the atlantic ocean.
How creative you can get with this spanner?
The “rules”:
To download the image below, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right.
Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

Hi Trevor,
you really want me to share my deepest secrets? 😉
1. I searched for an image of the good old Maggi Spoon to get the knot in the middle. As it was a very quick one I only found one with a bad resolution...
2. I doublicated the wrench 2 times and cut two of the three into halfs
3. The part to the left I aranged with the knot and made it a little bit blurry by using Gaussian Blur
4. The part to the right I changed in perspective by using Perspective Warp
5. then duplicate to get the height
6. To fill the gaps in between i used another duplicate with motion blur then delete blur outside with revers selection from the lower wrench
7. The reflections inside are just black & white lines I draw on top then used Layer Options to blend in a better way
8. The transitions between all parts were just optimized by using Clone Stamp and Healing Brush Tool
9. For the transformed text on the knot I simply used the third copy (+a fourth one) of the wrench, then Puppet Warp to curve it and blend it by reducing Layer opacity and setting Layer Mode
But this was just a quick & dirty one using lot's of Smartobjects, Layer Masks, Clipping Masks and Eraser Tool as well.
No AI-Function was used at any time. Maybe would have been faster but I like playing around the old fashioned way as my thoughts starting to develop the final idea during the process 🤷🏼😉🤘🏼

Thanks for the heads up Nils. Perspective Warp did a nice job with the ring end of the spanner. I need to put my hand up regards PW and admit that I only recently discovered you could have a third plane when seeing it in a video. I'd never used it with more than two planes before that, and was seriously missing out in PW's real power.
Even with the shortcuts, and we all take shortcuts when we think of them, it was still a nice job.

Danger Will Robinson !!

I am not sure why, but I used to love hearing 'The Robot' tear about repeating that phrase.
He was an odd looking boy, that grew into an odd looking adult. I guess all that space dust is not good for you.

I recognise that right hand pic from the Twilight Zone !!

I made the ancient version of the spanner. When metal wasn't a thing yet.
Sorry, I didn't even touch Photoshop. This is an Illustrator job.

A fine tool, Monika, and very well preserved.
It even fits wooden bolts and nuts still in use, both hexagonal and (slightly older) square ones.

I fear that this kind of tool can only be preserved by not using it 😄

And I fear that you are right, Monika.

Used in ancient times to fit chariot wheels 🙂

Oh I LOVE this Monika. There is an exotic timber call zebrawood that your spanner could be made of, although your texture is closer to Render > Fibers than the solid grain below. If it was made from zebrawood, with the crazy cost of exotic timber nowadays, it would probably be cheaper to make the spanner out of gold.

Zebrawood more expensive than gold - of course it is, it's zebra 😄
I love your comment, Trevor!

But is that metric time or imperial ? 🙂

Lol, Of course metric. It's about time...lol.

Speaking of alternate time, that makes me think of a clock that was modified for my dad's model railroad club.
They put the hour hand where the minute hand belonged and the minute hand where the second hand belonged.
That more accurately scaled rate of speed of the model trains as they rolled down the tracks.

Cool, I can picture that. My stepdad had his train Village years ago. He has past since.
