Something for the Weekend - Part 206 - We can can-can!

Community Expert ,
Jan 19, 2024 Jan 19, 2024

Thank you to all who took part in our previous driving road challenge.

Those that take part regularly will know that sometimes we start with a scene and sometimes an object. This week it is an old oil can, something that all mechanics working on machines and engines would have to hand. What can you make with it?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the image,  hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right.

Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). The background is transparent so that should save you some time masking.

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave

I watched that one, @TheOriginalGC , but didn't link to it because:

  • the music was wrong
  • the dancing was wrong

I know the music by heart and can "sing" it with just the notes. The cancan dance needs the high leg kicks that caused such a scandal in Paris in the 1830s and 40s. I couldn't find a video with the dancing that I liked, so I went with the John Strauss Orchestra and just the music. They performed perfectly!

@davescm I love this music and hadn't thought about it for years, so I'm enjoying "singing" it today! I used to be able to do the kicks, but not quite as high.

@Semaphoric

I didn't know that the "can-can" music was part of Jacques Offenbach's Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld. He called it Galop Infernal and the riotous dancing shocked the audience. Thanks for sharing, I loved this!

jane-e The name of this dance is not "can can" or "can-can", it's "French Cancan". 😉

I can't be the only one, but ... You know that an oil can is used to oil joints and there is a certain amount of room for interpretation here... 😉 Just sayin 😄

Henrik

Good use of the can Bob. I was trying to identify the plant, do you know what it is?

No, I don't, but it looks artificial to me.

To simply move the dance topic a bit into the future... but you still need oil to lubricate your joints...

So all I need to do is oil my joints, and then I can do the high kicks again?
