Something for the Weekend - Part 231 - Cutting Edge

Hi,
We had some great entries to our last, 'Northern Isles' challenge. Thanks to all who took part.

This week we start with a simple object - a circular saw blade. What can you make with it?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). It is a png so is already cut out from the background for you - an easy start to 2025. 🙂

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

I certainly do, Dean; now its tyres must have the most extraordinary grip ever..

For some, or no, reason I have always seen SFTW54 as a Kiwi setting.

This is kind of compelling, and forces you to keep looking at it.  Staring at the wee blade in the distant centre is like falling into an abyss.

Seeing @chrisc99675295 's mountain bike image reminded me of ice speedway.  You wouldn't want to fall and get run over by the rider behind you in this sport.

Now that is convincing, Trevor; and this seems to be the least dangerous use of the saw blade.

I have never seen ice speedway in real life, but those studs make normal tyre studs look inconspicuous.

: O  No joke! That's some hardcore racing. Thanks for sharing the video @Trevor.Dennis , I haven't seen this before. Probably since there's no ice for days here in the desert. We do have a unique outdoor ice skating experince for the holidays, tho. It ended last weekend, but it's pretty wild to be skating in the mid-70 temps:  https://downtowntucson.org/do/tucson-holiday-ice

Hardcore indeed. I've seen cars ice racing on super skinny spiked tyres but on a bike, that makes me shudder!

I'm staring at those decks trying to make sense of them, like why doesn't the one on the left have a tone arm and why are the central controls melted, and it suddenly dawned on me that this is AI generated.  Is that right Henrik?  Those tools can be incredibly useful and time saving, but they can also be a total menace!

The idea is good, but the AI generation is off. You would think that AI would be able to produce two matching decks, either with or without flaws. But of course, AI does not have a clue what it is generating in relation to physical objects, it is just patterns of pixels. Perhaps Artificial Unintelligence would be a better description.

I see them. A nice new explanation of Saturn's rings. We'll soon see this image appearing on conspiracy theory sites ! 🙂
