Hi,
We had some great entries to our last, 'Northern Isles' challenge. Thanks to all who took part.
This week we start with a simple object - a circular saw blade. What can you make with it?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser). It is a png so is already cut out from the background for you - an easy start to 2025. 🙂
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

I'm staring at those decks trying to make sense of them, like why doesn't the one on the left have a tone arm and why are the central controls melted, and it suddenly dawned on me that this is AI generated. Is that right Henrik? Those tools can be incredibly useful and time saving, but they can also be a total menace!

The idea is good, but the AI generation is off. You would think that AI would be able to produce two matching decks, either with or without flaws. But of course, AI does not have a clue what it is generating in relation to physical objects, it is just patterns of pixels. Perhaps Artificial Unintelligence would be a better description.

Newly released NASA image showing the secret toothed outer ring of Saturn. Earth and the Moon are also in this image, if you know where to look!

I see them. A nice new explanation of Saturn's rings. We'll soon see this image appearing on conspiracy theory sites ! 🙂

Clever use of the saw on the vinyl label. I don't miss the scratchiness of old vinyl records but I do miss the sense of occasion of getting a record home and opening the sleeve. 🙂

Thanks! Same. I miss the lyrics, the liner notes, the back stories but mostly the photos and artwork. Particularly, the work of the Roger Dean variety. In the interests of full disclosure, I think its important for me to mention that the band Buzzsaw doesn't exist. I invented the band, the name, the logo, the photo and the song I posted with the album cover. All were conjured from the ether and/or digitally manipulated into existence. 🙂

Even better that you did all that for an SFTW entry, well done indeed. 🙂
I loved Storm Thorgerson's covers on the Pink Floyd albums. Surreal ideas set up as real photographs, magic.

Nice @Amybeth M. ACI G7 ! Anything with a bike gets my vote! Do you ride? I have a road bike but it's been hanging on the wall for many years. I'm an avid mountain biker, tho, and love the freedom and fitness it provides. So fun!
