Something for the weekend - Part 52 - On the rocks!

Hi

To me, these rocks, layed out and folded in the shape of a wave, look man made. However, they are entirely natural. Known as Graymare Rock on the Nortumberland coast in North East England, they were twisted and folded by immense heat and pressure some 295 million years ago.

So for this weekend's challenge what will you make from them or do with them?

Anything goes as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to have a go - whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.

There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

When posting back your edited images please use jpeg and downsize to 1200px on the long side.

To download the image below in jpeg format with ICC color profile (sRGB) and without the forum scaling artefacts , right click and then use Save Image As /Save Target As (or similar depending on your browser).

Enjoy - and have a very happy, creative and successful New Year!

Nice one Rista.

First in with an image this weekend and it's painted fireworks. Love the shimmer effect on the water

They do say these have been around for millions of years, so no  great surprise to find a fossil.

I agree Dave, those rocks absolutely look man made!!!

Hard to believe they are 295 million years old.

Hmm…. The Flintstones come to mind.

Wonder how old Fred is by now???

Hi

Welcome Joan - lots of movement in that

Rista - that's excellent - real good use of the rock shape and textures.

kphotopage - I used to watch Fred when I was young  so, regardless of prehistory, he is definitely a good age now !

Jacob - I wonder if it can fly ?

I thought that, post Brexit, we may be able to use the ramp for the UK space programme....

Dave, I decided against a crash landing in favour of a final soar/glide that came to a soft end, with a certain inevitable disorder and scrawniness given the time and process eventually ending in fossilization.

Also, some of the (other) old (and less birdy) flyers have (also) seemed to defy the possible.

Anyroad, it is long ago, as with the snake and the heifer (did you spot the latter before it met (with(in)) the former? Another unfinished event).

Sharing something about Sydney.

We have an historic precinct in the city called The Rocks. Here a sculpture has been created called 'Still Life with Stone and Car'.

Dave, I don't to worry you, but I scrolled up to your fire image from the bottom of the page, so did not see your id straightaway, and I felt sure that was one of Ged's bizarre creations.

Sema, it's no good you trying to convince us you are a cool young dude.  We know the truth of it.

Jerry, that is a very sad reflection on the world we live in, brighten only slightly by the seasonal nature of the garbage.

Dean, great idea, but you missed a trick by not using the Top Gear Hilux

Hi

Dean - the dragon image is funny. Like Trevor, I also thought of the Top Gear Hilux when I saw your crushed car pic.

Jerry - it is a sad fact that beaches around the world are going that way

Dean,

The one from the original Toyota Hilux commercial (from NZ, of course, listen carefully to the dog) showing its strength, has XM7797; you can see it here:

1999: 'Bugger' | Toyota Hilux | Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand - YouTube

The one they failed to kill (from UK, of course, by BBC and Top Gear where it is still on display after rolling in by its own power), has E473CJN; you can see all the failed attempts here (listen carefully to the reason for their stopping between Part 2 and Part 3):
