Something for the weekend - Part 7 - Driftwood

Hi

Last weekend's Fuse character challenge had some great responses and ideas. This week is something completely different but hopefully will get the imaginative juices flowing.

I saw this piece of driftwood on the beach at Spey Bay in Scotland. The shapes reminded me of animal bones and that got me thinking about how we all see different things in abstract shapes such as clouds, rocks or pieces of wood.

So the challenge this week is to take all or part of the driftwood below and put it into a scene where it becomes something other than just a piece of wood.

Anything goes as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc.

Anyone is welcome to have a go - whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert.

There are no prizes - just the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun.

When posting back your edited images please use jpeg and downsize to 1200px on the long side.

To download the image below without the forum scaling artifacts, right click and then use Save Image As / Save Picture As (or similar depending on your browser).

Enjoy and have fun

Dave

My favourite Monty Python is 'The Holy Grail' with the killer rabbit and the knight having had his arm cut off describes it as a flesh wound lol I do like the Life of Brian as well -what did the Romans do for us apart from two dozen separate things-Always look on the Bright Side of Life -Eric Idle is a genius.

I only recently found out that Life of Brian had trouble getting funded because of its irreverent content.  Funding eventually came from Beatles George Harrison, bless his little heart.

The three main reasons Life of Brian was my favourite Python movie are 1) outrageously funny, 2) excellent cameo by Spike Milligan, 3) Unforgettable lines like 'He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy! Now, piss off!'

and 4)

Grrrr The FOUR main reasons Life of Brian was my favourite Python movie are.....

Footnote:  Here's hoping that Jane does not get these lyrics stuck in her head for hours.

Something very different using the wood as a texture for a 'Rock Watch', but possibly too oblique.

Thanks Dave. Glad your back -it just shows us Europeans know how to fix computer. Mentioning no names, but New Zealanders don't seem to have our superior level of engineering. As an aside whatever happened to Trevor lol

Haha - they work at a different pace down there .

I haven't yet re-installed Visual Studio - I think I'll take the opportunity to update it. I had VS 2015 before the crash and hadn't bothered updating as I was comfortable with it. But after spending most of today watching apps download and install - I've had enough for now.

Out of interest Dave, what's your connection like?  We had a pants 1.5Mb/s down and 0.5Mb/s connection for the first six years here.  We are out in the country, but luckily there is a school up the road, so they connected fiber to the cabinet, and while we still have copper from the cabinet, we have VDSL2 and 48Mb/s down and 12Mb/s up.

I took this from outside my house when they laid the fiber (on the other side of the road), but it is a case of so near yet so far, and there are plans to let us bring fiber into the house.  The reality is that it only takes a few minutes to install something the size of Photoshop, but as things change, you can never have to much bandwidth.

We are doing a big refurbish of the house, and had a builder and tiler call in today.  We are currently being lashed by the tail end of Cyclone Gita, and the builder said he really hoped that the cyclone does not do too much damage to the grapes (we are a month away from harvest) as everything slows down after a bad harvest because people don't have the money to spend.  The grapes are not quite a monoculture, but they are damn close, and the region would pretty much dies if a blight wiped out the grapes.  Scary stuff, but there is so much money in it, people (and the banks) are happy to take the chance.

.

40Mb/s down and 8Mb/s up at the moment. Like you, we have fibre to the cabinet then copper to the house.
I do have an alternative from another company, who have just wired the street, offering fibre to cabinet and coax to the house which would give 200Mb/s down - but the costs are significantly higher, so at the moment I'll stick with what we've got. It is very rare that I have to do all the downloading of the last couple of days.
