Sudden Photoshop 21.2.1 Lag & Freeze on macOS - Adjustment Layers

A quick overview ... I am a daily user and my photography workflow is more or less repetitive. I edit a few hundred images per week. I am running latest version of Photoshop on a fully spec'd mid-2017 iMac 27" 5K.
4.2 GHz i7, 64 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, etc
After editing images most of the day yesterday using the same steps over and over ... adding a Selective Color Layer and attempting to adjust it causes Photoshop to become unresponsive. Specifically when I adjust the top two sliders ... most serious lag on the top. The first time it occured I had to force PS to quit and lost my work. Most of the time it suffers from severe lag and catches up. Either way ... has never happenend before. Possibly related ... Photoshop did also crash yesterday at some point. I do not recall if it happened prior or after this began. Honestly, the first time I recall the software crashing in several months.
I have rebooted twice. Should I peform a reinstall? I do not seem to have problems with Lightroom or any other software I'm using ... so don't think my machine is to blame.
In addition, I have an apparent software bug. When I import images from Lightroom, the import dialogue randomly will not go away until I click somewhere on the image. When I close the image I find the dialogue box has been hiding in the background. It remains a nuisance until I restart PS.

Hi there,
We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop 21.2.1. Would you mind telling us the operating system of the computer you are using?
You can try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor from Photoshop by going to the Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit and relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps. If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3
Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG
Let us know how it goes!
Regards,
Nikunj

Thanks for reply.
Since posting I decided to uninstall / reinstall PS. Seems to have resolved adjutment layer lag ... so far.
I have been a user for almost 20 years. The prior update was the worst update in terms of bugs introduced I can honestly recall. All I experienced on the front-end seem to have been addressed in this update, but have to assume many are still lurking in the background going unnoticed.
Currently using OS 10.15.5 btw.

The lag issue has returned. After reinstalling yesterday, the problem returned again. Photoshop completely froze a few times. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled a second time. This time removing all preferences and settings. Everything seemed to be working great all morning until it wasnt a moment ago when the program froze yet again ... losing my work up that point.

I honestly do not have time to experiment with all of these settings. I've been using this machine for 2 years and editing images in the same manner day in, and day out. My machine has not changed, my Photoshop settings have not changed ... so I shouldn't have optimize anything. If by chance I have a hardware issue it would be nice to know if there's something I can do to troubleshoot. Sounds like there is a bug in Photoshop to me and instructing me to do what your flowchart says is not going to help fix the root cause.

Just a quick update to this ... I ultimately went back to version 21.1.3 and ALL of my issues have stopped. Except for brush lag ... but sounds like that is never going to get fixed?!?!
