Halfway through a complex path any new anchor point I try to add doesn't connect to the rest. Anyone know what to do?
Also - if anyone knows how I change settings for my paths. They are all reverse once I've made them...
Many many thanks in advance!

Amazing. This was first brought to light in March 2020. Today is May 11, TWENTY TWENTY ONE AND ADOBE HASN'T FIXED THIS?!!! Unbelievable. Before they come out with another 'upgrade' they should focus on fixing stuff like this first.

Same issue! Looks like they have yet to fix this annoying bug (5.13.21)!!!!
I copied and pasted the saved path to make it a Work Path again, and that allowed me to add new anchor points to that copped path. I just deleted the original saved path b/c I could no longer add to it so it's useless. Basically, saving your path so you can come back to it later is not working. Booooooo

Have you read the rest of this thread? The workaround is simple. Create a workpath, even with a single point in it. That is it. You don't need to do anything further with that workpath, it just has to be there. As long as that workpath exists you can amend and edit saved paths as normal, no need to copy them or delete them.
Edit to add : v22.4 fixes the issue and removes the need for the workaround

Same here. Its pretty ridiculous that we cant use the pen tool if it is part of our professional needs

It is a bug, but there is an easy workaround that can be used in the meantime.
Make sure your document has a current workpath. The content of that workpath does not matter, it may be just one path point. What is important is that that the open document does have that workpath. Provided you do that, then you can click on a saved path and edit it as normal.
For reversed paths, check the options bar for path options. It sounds like you have them set to subtract.

I am having same issue. It is a really big problem for me since I need to use this tool every day. I actually uninstalled ps 2021 and went back to 2020 this morning. Maybe Adobe will address it in the near future so then I will reinstall 2021.

Were you really overtaxed by keeping a Work Path while working on as many named Paths as you need?

Actually, it is a pain because all of these other "shapes" have appeared and complicated the simple function of making a path.

What are you talking about?
Shape Layer have existed for a while now and if you are creating them inadvertently that’s probably owed to the settings in the Optionn Bar.
Also they have nothing to do with the recent Pen Tool bug.

This has never happened before the pen/path issue

oh, yea, I have paths checked and rechecked. I think I will go back to 2020 until these bugs are fixed. I'm wasting too much time on these issues even though 2021 may have some new features.

Please describe under which situations unwanted Shape Layers are created and post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible.

I've just discovered this problem - STILL HAPPENING MAY 2021 - very frustrating, just lost 30 minutes work having to re-start a path. Incredible that this is still not fixed.

This is a screenshot of the error - there seems to be no way I can add to an already created path - only disconnected points are added. It is too late to keep a work path, I have already over-written that. If I start a new path in this file I get the same bug - points are not connected.

The work-around has been mentioned on this thread already.

Check out v 22.4 where this issue is listed as fixed (it works correctly here in that version)
