I logged into photoshop today to edit a psd file for work. I noticed tha tthe cursor for my text was on the far left, instead of following the twxt on the right like normal. the problem arose when the punctuation was no longer in the right spot. After somg googling, I double checked to make sure language was at east asian (it was already). the language int eh text toolbox was set as English UK so i changed it to English USA- still no difference. I re-set the text tool, but it re-set to paragraph starting on the right with the cursor on the left. I re-started photo shop and it works correctly in a new document, but not on the existing PSD. How do I get the text cursor to go back to normal?

I know this thread is from 2014 - but since this pops up as the first hit on google and there's no apparent solution to it, I wantet to make it a bit clearer.

angielalaboo is right in the fix, but the default Photoshop layout will not have these two "P" icons readily available. So in order for you to activate them go to your Paragraph window and hit the burger menu icon top right hand corner and select Middle Eastern Features instead of the default one. That will activate the "P" icons. Then yo

Could your text alignment be changed. Look in the top toolbar for left center and right aligned or in the paragraph dialog box at the top. Make sure it is not the opposite of what you need.

This is a paragraph option. Go to Window>Paragraph then a small window will pop up. You will have two buttons on the bottom. One with a arrow on the left of P and one on the right. Select the right one.

This solution is for Ps Cs6, I am not aware if this will work on cc or not, but you can try. It is working perfectly for cs6.

In case image does not load, follow the steps here.
In Photoshop, click on Edit menu and go all the way down to find Preferences and click on Type. A box will come up with some options, look for Choose Text Engine Options and select Middle Eastern.

Now restart your Photoshop for these settings to take effect.

I hope this helps..

DenRigtigeAndreas, thank you so much for your answer, I'm not sure how mine got switched but it was crazy annoying.

Uploading a picture of what Den was talking about for those who might not know. 🙂
