The Select > Modify menu changing sides

I use the Select menu > Modify >Expand/Contract regularly and daily during work. My issue is that the Modify menu seems to randomly switch from the left to right side of the menu, which isnt a major issue, but it is a hassle and a slow down when im in the middle of cruising through a job. Is there anyway to stop these menus from randomly moving, or to just keep it to the left or right side of the menu?

ive searched on the internet and havent found anything.

Im on windows 11, whatever the latest PS is, but this happened regularly on win10 as well.  If that helps at all.

The operating system handles this and all other menus and determines placement. I don't believe that developers have an option to control this on either platform.

Hey, @freetouch2000. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll move this post to discussions for now. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share a screen recording or screenshots & the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > upload and attach here.

Are you working on multiple monitors? Disconnect additional displays and keep only one at a time as a test.

If this does not help, ensure no stale preferences are present in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

...why would multple monitors have anything to do with this. When im working, I select something. Then I go to the drop down menu Select, then to Modify. The modify menu of Border/Smooth/Expand/Contract/Feather will sometimes show up on the left side of the modify menu, and sometimes it will show up on the right side of the menu. It seems to happen depending on where the image is at on screen I am working on (on the same screen, not a different one, just the tablet screen im working on.)

This isnt a system issue, this has happened on two different computers on two different completely fresh installs.

Is there an option to lock dropdown menus from moving side to side?

Are you using a tablet? This might be your issue, because it was for me.
