Too many computers activated

Community Beginner ,
Nov 18, 2024 Nov 18, 2024

When I try to reinstall my photoshop/illustrator (CS6) on my new computer and it gives me an error saying that the software is activated on too many computers. When I log into the Adobe website it shows no computers are activated.

How do I proceed with installation.

With the Creative Suite, you had two activation slots (two machines). To activate a third installation, you had to deactivate one of the others.

If you didn't, or couldn't, e.g. because of a disk crash, Adobe could until recently reset your activation count if you contacted them.

They no longer do that.

Did you get a solution. I have the same problem. Adobe support said they can't help. Cant or wont? I only use the software a few times  year processing bulk images and it is not worth paying a month fee for software that does not get opened. CS6 was perfect

See the answer from DFosse that is marked Correct. You need to have at least one of your two activations available before you can activate again.

I have read those yes, I just can't believe (or undestand) how a big organisation can be so incompentant.

@scott24585593efx0  Not incompetent. This is software from 2012, 13 full versions out of date, that you have chosen to still use. Let's just be realistic.

Please refrain from making duplicate posts as per forum guidelines. You started a new post here which was answered by staff.

In addition, you made that duplicate post almost immediately after posting here in this thread.

In addition, you posted in the other thread that your version of Photoshop CS6 has now been activated. Congratulations!

Yet even 13 year old software is still used by many people and still does a great job. Incompetent was probaly a bad choice of words. the more accurate word is probably no more complimentary.  Anyway didn't mean to bother you, was hoping to hear from TMCG to see if they got a solution. There is some conflicting info out there some saying that you can't even register CS6 at all. So always good to hear if someone manages to get a solution.

I've seen that conflicting information too. The servers for activating CS6 have not been shut down (yet), but there must be at least one of the two activations available.

This is from Adobe Help:

CS6, CS5.5, CS5

Make sure you’re connected to the Internet. Reinstall your app on the same computer on which it was originally installed. In the app, select Help > Deactivate.

I use the software a couple times per year and it served its purpose. Let's be realistic, Adobe just wants you to subscribe and pay $600 per year. I'm not going to be doing that.

The answer I got from calling Adobe was essentially tough. They graciously offered to see me a subscription for $600 per year even though I own the software. Seems like I'm getting screwed...

Same exact problem with CS5. Accidently uninstalled it. No active devices showing on account page. Not installed anywhere else. I can reinstall fine but it's telling me that I have it activated on too many computers.

@MartiniOlives  Did you get any solution or did you have to move to a new package?
