Can anyone think of a reason why trying to open a dds file in Ps will crash the program to the desktop? I have Nvidia texture tool and intel texture works installed and each works fine. I have no trouble saving as a dds file, but when it comes to opening a dds file, the whole application just crashes. I am working on W10. Can anyone help? Please!

After installing the plug-in, open Photoshop and click Filter. Select NvTools > NormalMapFilter to open the window shown directly below. That window includes numerous options for DDS files to open in Photoshop.
Have you installed the Plug-in?
Here is a link to more information about opening a dds file in Photoshop:

I installed Nvidia Texture Tools plugin from the link that you provided and once installed, Nvidia Tools is not an option under Filter.
I can pull up the screen to Save As and then that screen freezes, but saves the dds. After I choose the format that I want to save the dds in, that screen will freeze and I can't go any further.
My dds does save but with 0 bytes
When I try to open that dds, I'm prompted to create a new document.
Where do I go from here?

If it has 0 bytes, then no information was saved.
I have not worked with dds files before, so I am hoping someone else on the forums will chime in.
But I do have a question for you--have you checked to make sure that you have enough ram on your machine for this to process?
Is your system powerful enought to process the file? Here is a help doc that gives the minimun system requirements for Photoshop:https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html
Check to se if your system is compatible, and let us know. Hopefully as we keep this thread alive someone will have a better answer foryou.

Yeah, I have an AMD R5 3600x @ 4.2 Ghz with 32 GB ram. GTX 1060 6GB GPU so not having a powerful enough rig is not the problem. Thanks for the help and I hope someone else chimes in as well.

Same. Started back in Photoshop CC 21 and has carried over to PS CC 2022.
The Nvidia and Intel Texture Works plugins work fine from within Photoshop if you select open-as (plugin) to open .dds files.
But trying to open .dds from windows explorer, or directly import into PS crashes the program everytime. This is a Photoshop problem, not a plugin problem. Seriously...why is the ability to work with .dds file type not a built in feature of Photoshop yet? It's actually quite ridiculous to still need a third party plugin for this anyway.

The only thing that I can tell you is what my experience taught me.
All previous plugins that happen to be in the plugins folder need to be removed. I would suggest putting them somewhere else for safe keeping.
Follow the you tube video that is in this thread but make sure that it is the only file in the plugins folder. I had another file in there and the conflicted with each other causing dds files to crash the program. It worked for me and hope that it works for you. https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/how-can-i-open-dds-file-in-photoshop/...

Open PS program, select "File" >"Open as", navigation window opens then at the bottom select file format from list > "DDS(*.DDS:*.DDS)" then, in the navigation window go to/find and select your DDS file. Should open no problem.

That used to work for me, but since I updated NVidia driver, it's not working anymore.
