Unable to change area colour with magic wand and paint bucket

Community Beginner ,

Hi, I've been trying to change the white background of a picture to another colour using the magic wand tool and paint bucket tool but it doesn't change. It stays white even after clicking multiple times. My steps:

1. Select the white background with magic wand

2. Select the colour at the right side

3. Select the paint bucket tool

4. Select the white background with the paint bucket tool

Below is a picture of the issue.

I've actually used this method before to change background colours but today, it just is no longer working and I'm not sure why. Thank you for any help!

In your screenshot your Foreground Color in the Tools Panel is set to White.

It looks like the Color Panel is set to add color to the Background Color instead of the Foreground and that's why your Paint Bucket Tool is not working.

To reset the Color panel click on the Foreground Color Chip, then when you select colors it should work with the Paint Bucket Tool

The Paintbucket Tool is, in my opinion, best disregarded altogether.

In your example you can simply add a Solid Color Layer of the intended color and set it to the Blend Mode »Multiply« without first creating any Selections.

Chloe, does your image file have layers?

You'd have to activate the image layer (ie not an 'adjustment layer' 'mask layer' etc) to paint onto it.

more here

Can you paint with the paintbrush?

I hope this helps
