I am working on texturing/painting something for a video game. Within the photo I used a single color as a base coat (fiest phto) for an area but I wish to texture it similar to other parts (inside the red circle in the second photo). My thought would be to copy an area somehow and just use that as a brush to paint over the area that I need (like a bunch of copy and paste but faster?). This is very zoomed in an there is a lot of area to paint, so it would just be a huge time saver as a brush than trying to blur/smudge or copy/paste. I tried the clone tool but it doesnt cover a lot of area at a time because it pics up other parts of the photo.

You could certainly define that texture as a brush preset, but you need to be aware of how the different tonal values will work. Just remember that full white will be completely transparent, and full black completely opaque. Alternatively, knock out the grey areas with curves or levels so you just have the black spatter effect, and then use settings (Count, scatter etc.) to control how the texture is applied.
Apply the texture to a new layer, and set it to Multiply or Darken. Whatever works for you.
If you load the likes of Kyles Megapack and use the search bar to look for spatter or scatter you'll find heaps of presets that might either do as they are, or serve as a good starting point. You might need to enable the search bar from the hamberger menu (top right).
I expect you know that if you define a new brush preset and apply settings, you need to define it again with the following options checked
When you get a few new presets, group them, select and export them. This creates a .abr file that will keep them safe. I am sure you knew that as well. 🙂
