Wacom paint splodges with art history brush

I have started to get random splodges of colour when using the art history brush as a cloner.  The brush cursor is following the rules and shapes of its type (eg Tight Long) when suddenly the paint stops obeying the brushing rules of the AHB and just splodge  uncontrolled areas of paint.  It could be a problem with my wacom driver settings but I can't see what.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

This problem seems to have been fixed in the 21.1.3 update.  There is a specific reference to this problem of pen pressure randomly dropping.
