Warp/Distort Linked Smart Objects

I'm bringing in Linked Smart Objects from AI. I can apply Perspective Warp and Puppet Warp but when it comes to labels on cylindrical shapes it would be nice to be able to warp.

Anybody figured a workaround for this?

As @Michael Bullo explained Vector Smart Objects are subject to some limitations that pixel Smart Objects are not.

    When bringing in content as a Smart Object to Photoshop from Illustrator, not all of the functionality of a typical Smart Object is available. Although it adds to the complexity of the nesting, the easiest solution may be to embed that Smart Object within another Smart Object.
