Hi i love creating modern photo collages which contain images, text and shapes similar to ones like at www.canva.com. The thing is i don't know what is the correct program to use as i'm a perfectionist. Is it photoshop, illustrator, indesign etc. What do you guys think?

You did ask the question, "what application is best for this", and you got an answer. Or several.
Photoshop has such massive market saturation nowadays that people think it should be used for everything and anything. But that's not correct. It's strictly a raster image editor, and for anything beyond that there is specialist software that is better. Like InDesign, or Illustrator, for that matter.

In the end the application that is best is the application the user prefers to use and knows best. There is no clear best application for creating collages and the are a lot of other applications that are not Adobe application that were design to create Collages..
Above all else Photoshop is a pixel editor However it is not strictly a pixel editor it more a development tool... It also can not do evething well...

Thank you for the support JJMack, I have successfully managed to create a collage in my preferred program photoshop. It has been organised into layers, it has guides, you can even edit the images at the same time, and the text and graphics look great because of the DPI. And decides photoshop advertises how to create a collage Create collages, montages | Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and how to add text Add text and shapes | . Here is a screenshot of my 'HOT CHIPS' collage.

Photoshop Elements is not Photoshop CC. 2 different products aimed at different users. Elements is a light weight consumer version for amateurs and hobbyists that is much simpler to use than pro level Photoshop CC. And it costs a lot less too -- about $100, no subscription required.

Photoshop Elements is not Full Photoshop. I'm sure you can creates Collages with elements. However. Element lack many features that Photoshop has. I CS2 around 10 years a programmed a Photo Collage Toolkit for Photoshop and not long ago added Mockup support to it.
Though Elements can use some some actions and script created for Photoshop most will not work in Elements. I'm sure my toolkit will not work in Elements, My Collage Template design is simple, Templates are easy to create and populate. Most mockup templates can be be modified to comply with my Mockup design.
Collage and Mockup templates can be Batch Populated. Using Photoshop Scripts in my toolkit. Photoshop is much more powerful than Elements. Creating collages is a simple task for Photoshop.

I just started using the Photoshop Elements and it is very different from all of my former Photoshops. I must form a new set of use habits for this one. Does some fun things!
I will keep it. Never know what's ahead. JH

No mention of Illustrator yet? How can that be? (Just kidding... sort of.)
