What happened to Layer—merge down?

My workflow depended heavily on quick, temporary layers with masks that I would "merge down" with a single keystroke after painting on the masks.

Has Adobe taken away that command?! It appears to be gone in the latest version. I NEED this command!!

Ctrl+E is not a single keystroke it more like two where Shift+Ctrl+E three. Adobe changed the name not the shortcut New name Merge Layers

In the Menu Layer-> Merge Down, which hotkey is written next to the name of the menu item?

The command (⌘-E on Macs—a single keystroke since they're pressed simultaneously) wasn't showing up earlier, but it's working now so I don't know what that was all about...

thanks.
