Where is Manual Photomerge? AI Photomerge?

Why is it that I have to back to PS version 8 to find Manual Photomerge? I am currently borrowing one of my old Adobe demos, PS version 11 doesn't have it either. As an archivist, I am constantly piecing together images.

Anyone, who has spent anytime with Photomerge, realizes that most of the time it doesn't work.  I have tried to expand some pics to give a little more similiar info to piece scans together. This kind of works but it made me think why can't we just get an AI assist to do the job?

It is ridiculous for such an expensive program as this to do away with such a useful feature. They really should bring it back with AI assist.

I remember Russell Brown did a series of Photomerge tutorials when he first got in his DJI drones.  He was selecting the images in Bridge, and doing to processing to each image, like Lens Correction in ACR.  Then selecting them in Bridge and using Tools > Photoshop > Photomerge.

Blimey, this was a while back. This video is 10 years old!  There should be more though.

It's still there.

Personally, I never use this automated rolled-into-one-script, because it doesn't give you any control of the process. I do it (at least semi-) manually:

  1. Stack the images as layers. The frame at the bottom of the stack is the anchor that the others align to. The bottom layer is not transformed. Fan the others out over it.
  2. Run Edit > Auto-Align. Usually the auto option gives the best result. Go to 100% and check pixel alignment, nudge if necessary.
  3. Run Edit > Auto-Blend. Make sure to pick the "panorama" option, not the "stacking" option. Unless you do focus stacking. Uncheck "content-aware fill empty areas".

Sorry, but it is not.

If you try to use Automate...Photomerge when trying to put 2 scans of a magazine together, you will probably get a Script Error in any version of Photoshop after PS4 [version 11] . In PS version 8 [with a feather in logo], it will send you to an area where you can rotate the 2 scans to make them fit together better. This area is missing in later versions. I have been trying to do the same job I have been doing for the last 25 years [digitizing everything], all while trying to keep up with changing OS's & Apps.  Back when Adobe put out demos, I downloaded them all.

I tried your idea but the Align Layers section wasn't selectable.

Perhaps if were able to post some example scans we could direct how to best go about merging them in

modern Photoshop versions.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
