Why is my 3D menu greyed out? (Photoshop CC)

Sorry if I'm asking this in the wrong place, first time I attempt using these forums!

I have recently installed Photoshop CC, and I'm experiencing that the 3D menu is all greyed out - I remember using it without problems in CS5.

Hi NinjaMountainGoat,

There are some hardware requirements for the new software capabilities. To be able to use the 3D features in Photoshop, it is required that you have a video card that is atleast 512mb. To check what kind of video card capability you have, goto Help --> System Info. From there, you should see 'Video Card Memory: __MB'. If your memory card is only 256mb, it will not be able to handle the 3D features.

Thanks for the response, Chris!

I updated both the intel and AMD Radeon drivers and the 3D menu is no longer greyed out - but this bring me to a 2nd problem. Whilst it's not greyed out any longer - the functions don't work, and the first time an error message pops up, saying that I should enable 'Use Graphics Processor' (which is checked in the preferences), that my video card should live up to the requirements - which it seems to do... but I might be wrong on this? And finally that my drivers are working correctly - which is was I just updated to make the 3D menu even work.

The actual error message probably says that you should disable the graphics processor because your video card has a problem. But, of course, we'd know more if you could post the exact error message wording.

Using 2 different GPUs at one time tends to cause problems in the drivers. For system with a low end embedded GPU, it's best to turn that GPU off in the GPU driver or BIOS.

Plus your drivers are from March of 2012 - hardly current.

Also odd is that the AMD and Intel GPUs are reporting the same driver version - which means that there is a problem with the drivers on your system.

Thanks for the reply!

The drivers had to be updated through Lenovo's services, which made updating them a bit messier than I would have wished.

I found that in the updated driver, I was able to choose which GPU was to work in which programs, and could assign the powerful one for Photoshop - which seems to have fixed it.

Wasn't possible - it told me I had to contact my computer manufactorer when I tried installing the newest one. I guess it's just how Lenovo wants it.
