previously my g5 imac, os 10.6, would run photoshop 7. then i changed my hd to solid state and ps7 would not run. any ideas, thanks?
A imac 7,1 is a Mid 2007 Core 2 Dou Intel processor mac, not a G5.
You had mac osx 10.6 snow leopard before the ssd?
If you had mac os x 10.4 before the ssd upgrade it's possible photoshop 7 could have run on that even though the os is intel.
From what i know the reason photoshop 7 won't run on mac os x 10.5 and 10.6 is due to the way those macs
handle memory and photoshop 7 can't cope with it.
I have never heard or personally experimented with the Intel version of mac os x 10.4 to see if it will run

Thanks. So, not a G5, it is an Intel processor, which is what came after G5. I think I might have the same model, but it's just about stopped working. Either the 2006 plastic 24" or the 2007 aluminium 24". I believe the plastic version would go up to Mac OS 10.7 and the aluminium one up to Mac OS 10.11. Not that this helps you run Photoshop 7, which cannot conceivably run after 10.6. Just to settle on what you have. I wonder if you have an external hard drive? You could perhaps install a 10.5 system on an external drive for dual boot and see if Photoshop could run. My instinct is that there's something about the SSD which stops you from working; maybe it's too fast.

I do have an external hd, tried it but does not work. On my 24" imac, i am stuck on a password for vise (installer). ted

Your sure you weren't running os x 10.4 before you did the ssd and then installed 10.5 on the ssd?
Do you still have the old drive and can you run it by hooking to usb or firewire and then confirm the os version
by getting a screenshot of About This Mac.

jeff: i am sure the old hd was running 10.6, i checked it many times. i cannot find the old hd to check, but my main concern is to run ps7 on os 10.5 of the new ssd. i am stuck on a password for vise (installer). ted

The password it's asking for is more than likely the same one you use to log-in to your mac.

i have tried that several times, and 4 other pw, none of them work. even the password hint gives me the login pw.

If this is the installer screen your talking about, then yes it uses the same user name and password that you use
to login on your mac at first startup.
Or, for example, when using Software Update, it's the same Name and Password you would enter there as well.

thanks jeff, your first image is what i get. when i put in the login pw it says "the pw you tried is incorrect, please try again". it is the same pw i use to login on the intel imac. even the pw hint indicates the login pw. i am stuck, do not know what to do.
i am not sure if ps7 will even work on os 10.5.
