work on a color channel directly

Hello.

I realise this is a very basic question, but I can't seem to figure it out: I need to work on a colour channel directly—say, dim an area on the magenta channel. However, switching off the other channels in the channel palette and simple working on the one channel still visible (with an eraser, in this case) doesn't seem possible, I have no idea why. I'm sure it is, but how? I even copied the channel, whereupon it becomes editable as expected, but then copying the entire image in that channel and pasting it into the magenta channel isn't possible. Again: why? It should be, I know. Thirdly, I try deleting the original magenta channel and naming the copy Magenta. Needless to say …

So, how to do this?

Thanks a lot!

Don't switch off the other channels, just target (click) the one you want to work on. It will display as a grayscale image. All the normal pixel-editing tools will work (but not adjustment layers or masks).

It's also possible to paste any image into a single channel, when that channel is targeted.
