P: Bring Quick Share back to Photoshop (removed from 23.3)

Community Beginner ,
Apr 19, 2022 Apr 19, 2022

Adobe, bring back the Quick Share button that was at the top right of Photoshop (it was just removed with the April release of Photoshop 23.3)

The reasoning for removing it is stated as "due to low usage, desire to simplify the options bar UI, and redundant functionality to other export functions."

But there is no other export function (that I am aware of) that allows you to send an image directly to another device via AirDrop -- This was extremely convenient as I didnt have to save/export a file onto my HDD everytime I wanted to send something to my phone or tablet.
Please bring it back and tuck it away somwhere if you have to.

Great news! The latest Photoshop Beta now supports native Mac/Windows sharing options like AirDrop, Mail, Nearby Share & more. We’ve also added Slack integration, Quick export & Copy to clipboard for all your assets, all accessible via the Share button at the top right.
Rolling out to regular Photoshop soon as well!

We are working on a new version of Share that restores the OS sharing controls, including Airdrop, Messages, and will also add Slack.

Here's how this works: make a feature request to bring it back. Get all those folks to upvote. Get enough, maybe, maybe, Adobe will change their collective minds (the PS team) and it will come back. Maybe not.

Or roll back to an older version and don't upgrade (not a long-term viable solution but one solution).

If you look at the history of PS, feature removal is rare. Very rare.

So again, I'll state that what you're asking for is unlikely but now you know how to try doing something about it.

You can vote here:

EDIT: I just noticed that the topic is marked as a "bug" when it isn't a bug, so it should be an "idea"...

Which "Conversation Type" should I choose before writing a post?

The same happened to Scalable Vector Graphics format. Adobe said it was not popular, but I noticed the 6 pages thread with complaining customers proves it was not true: Mar 16, 2022

Buongiorno a tutti, non avevo mai avuto questo problema prima! Quando duplico lo sfondo non mi appare la fotografia ma soltanto uno sfondo bianco, mentre nel navigatore vedo la foto regolarmente! Come risolvo il problema? Grazie mille!

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

The File>Share menu selection has been eliminated in latest 23.3.0 update of Photoshop.  This was a quick way of sharing work via Airdrop, Email, etc. and its demise seems to be a step backward if you ask me.  Now, your choices are to save work to the cloud or to a local disk and then, if you want to share via airdrop or email, you need to do it through Finder.  Not the very quick solution that File>Share offered. Can we please have it back?

I used this for Air Drop - and now can't find a way to quick drop an image to my iphone. I don't always want to have to save a file/edit before I drop it to my phone.

to be specific - it was the quickest way to share a photo I've edited (on my computer) to Instagram which can only be posted on from a phone. Frustrating.

Wish this feature were back. I'm on a Mac and loved being able to AirDrop to my iPhone.

Really, really miss it!

I also cannot survive without AirDrop! This is what I am doing:

  1. Drag the document tab down to make a Floating Window (alternately: choose Window > Arrange > Float in Window)

  2. Command + Click the title bar of the Floating Window to reveal the Path for the document. (This feature is part of macOS.)

  3.  Click the folder that contains to file to navigate to the correct folder in Finder.

  4. Right-click the file in Finder > Share > AirDrop > Select your device > Okay
    janee_3-1650392028952.png
  5. Return to Photoshop > Drag the title bar of your image back into the Drop Zone to make it a Tab again (alternately: Window > Arrange > Consolidate All to Tabs.)
    janee_4-1650392213402.png

This is not as quick as the former method, but it's pretty fast once you get the hang of it.

The other thing you'll want to do is to click the Upvote button. Right now there are only 7 upvotes (including mine) and this low number is unlikely to convince Adobe that it's a feature folks are using.

If you are new to dragging panels (and the document window) into a drop zone, read this help page. This method is fast with dragging the title bar to float and dock the window and a bit slower with the menu commands.

I hope this helps.

Jane

I wonder what would happen with votes if that conversation would be changed to Ideas type.

Hi Jane,

A small JavaScript can open a Finder window for the current (saved) document directly from Photoshop. This replaces the first 3 of your steps. One can then use the contextual click or toolbar to Share via AirDrop.

Skip unsaved file:

#target photoshop
try {
    documents.length;
    var openDocFolder = Folder(activeDocument.path.fsName);
    openDocFolder.execute();
} catch (error) {
    // Silently skip an unsaved file
}

Save unsaved file:

#target photoshop
try {
    documents.length;
    var openDocFolder = Folder(activeDocument.path.fsName);
    openDocFolder.execute();
} catch (error) {
    // Save an unsaved file
    executeAction(stringIDToTypeID("save"), undefined, DialogModes.ALL);
    var openDocFolder = Folder(activeDocument.path.fsName);
    openDocFolder.execute();
}

As previously mentioned, it may be possible to further automate with AppleScript. I don't know enough AS to comment on what is possible.

I don't know! :]

I also wonder what would happen if it was merged into the following idea, would the votes be retained?

Bring Quick Share back to Photoshop!

Apologies for my ignorance - I rarely use this forum.

I hesitated to 'upvote' as it felt contrary to how i feel about the information in the original post.

I've upvoted.

I also can't edit my original comment as I don't have tenure in the community.
