Hello,

There is an update available for Elements 2022, which fixes the hang on launch issue.

To Update Elements, Request you to please Launch and Close Elements Organizer and leave your system idle, depending on your interent connection speed - the update will be applied automatically and should fix the launch issue for PSE.

In case if the automatic update fails, Please install the update for E2022 manually from Elements Organizer.

Please refer to release notes for more details around E2022.1 Update: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/release-note/update.html

Regards,
Vipin

To help Adobe, here are the details of what happened with Photoshop Elements 21. I purchased a new imac 27 about a month ago. My understanding is that it was running the Big Sur operating system. I installed Photoshop Elements from dvds that were purchased from Best Buy.  For the next month, Photoshop Elements worked great and could be opened and closed repeatedly.

Last week, there was a notification that the new Monterey OS was ready to be installed. I installed it and later tried using Photoshop Elements. I found that it would open as it should, but only once. If I close it and then try opening it again, the icon bounces around but the software will not open and a force quit is required. When I retart the computer, Photoshop Elements works again, but only once.

I called Apple Card and spoke with a supervisor. I was told that there is nothing that can be done to fix the problem. Adobe will have to develop a fix for this problem to be resolved. Apple Care suggested that we need to call Adobe and urge them to develop this fix.

In Europe, it is my understanding that Adobe Support is only open during normal business hours.

I called the german support on monday 21/11/01. The expert I was talking to was not aware of the new OS-version! He said, because of one week of, having vacation. Anyhow; he had got no solution at all. No idea of what Adobe is going to do or not to do. No hint for a usefull workaround.

Has anyone of you guys got better news?

As with most US software companies, the Adobe's German support is not really good. They're somehow always behind. Better contact the US support at first. For me, I downloaded a free test version of Affinity Photo by now. Looks and works almost like Photoshop Elements, and it is ready for Monterey.

I just updated to macOS Monterey and PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 2022 which I just bought (not yet had time to use it !!!) refuses to open. A large question mark is displayed on the software pictogram. Does anyone have the solution ? Adobe ?

There is no solution.  There is no fix yet. all you can do is wait it out till a fix is issued.

@EAM1, you will have to contact Elements support about your serial number issue. You can start a chat session by clicking on the blue Contact Us button under the Support menu at Adobe.com. Or you can contact Support by telephone using the numbers listed here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html.

And did you purchase Elemenets 2022 from Adobe? Or some authorized seller?  There are always plenty of scams when a new release is issued.

Thanks Greg, I had the help from ADOBE chat.

For the other users who are in the same situation than me after updated to macOS Monterey :

I just uninstalled my software and reinstall it from my ADOBE account and it works 🙂

Have a nice evening

That was the first thing I tried. It did not work.

It's a shame that Adobe has done such a poor job on keeping Photoshop Elements up to date.  It almost seems as if they don't care if people can use it or not.

My wish list:

• Runs native on M1 Macs

• Runs on Monterey

It's aslo a shame that Apple forces people to purchase the latest version of software, just because it works with thier newest OS.  Why is that People never fuss about Apple when they have to drop $100 extra becoause of an update to their OS?

It's not Apple's fault. They've been offering updates for years. It's not their job to care about other developers' software. It's the developers' job to keep up with OS updates, and smaller companies like Affinity clearly show that this is possible. Just not for Adobe.

To all Mac users who are offended by my comments:

This is a user-to-user forum.  I am not employed by Adobe.  I'm just here as a volunteer to offer some help to Elements users who are having problems with the program.

No need to shoot the messenger.  😒

I'm suprized I haven't seen any ALL CAPS comments, yet.... it'll happen though.

I pay $10.84 a month for the full version of Photoshop-  Just downloaded the latest version too.

Might be something for users to consider--- I would think if they can afford a computer that can run the latest mac OS they could order 2 less foo foo drinks a month from starbucks and have no worries.

Don't use PhotoShop enough to justify paying a monthly rental fee.  That sucks.   I had PhotoShop CS6, but not compatible with the latest OS.. So downloaded Photoshop Elements 2022 a couple days ago, to see if it will meet my needs..  But like everyone else, can't open it to even try it. 😞

I have the exact same problem after installing Monterey on my imac. I can only use Photoshop Elements once. If I close it and then try to open it again, I get a bouncing icon and PE refuses to load. I end up having to force quit. If I restart the computer, PE works again, but just once.

I called Apple Care about this problem today. I talked to a supervisor, who confirmed that nothing can be done to fix this problem. The problem must be resolved by Adobe. I was told that Adobe needs to develop a fix for the Monterey OS so Photoshop Elements 2021 will work normally without having to restart the computer.

The Apple Care supervisor suggested that we should call Adobe and urge them to make this fix.

@Randolph II, I have no idea when any fix for Monterey problems will appear.  I brought this thread to the attention of Adobe immediately because the Original Poster described problems with Elements 2022.  Most of the later responses relate to issues with Elements 2021.

Since Monterey probably did not exist, even in beta, when Elements 2021 was released, it is not surprising that it was not tested with that version.  And based on my experience, I would say that Adobe will not offer any fix for that version.  (It is my understanding that there may be some complex legal/accounting reasons why that won't happen.)  So, as a Windows user who is glad he never used a Mac, my personal opinion is that Mac users should be asking Apple why it continues to release a new OS on a very frequent basis without taking into account its damaging effect on legacy programs.  At least MSFT does its best to make older programs compatible with newer OS releases.  And, as an early adopter in a prior life, I now find it easier to wait a while before updating an OS.  So while I have no personal experience, I am not seeing any unresolvable issues with Elements users updating to Windows 11.

I also encourage other users to describe their experiences with Monterey in this thread.  Not only does it help Adobe understand the scope of the issues, but the more detail that can be provided will help the developers find a solution.

Greg, please note that Photoshop Elements 2022 is the only application wich doesn't work on my IMac after installing Monterey and I have many 😉 In fact, I don't meet often problem with upgrades of Mac OS. And I work with a Mac since 2010.  Hope this problem will be fixed rapidly : I use Photoshop Elements since many years and I like it.

I have the same Problem. Photoshop Elements Editor 2021 will not start. Instead the icon keeps jumping in the menu and then is unresponsive. Adobe Elements 2021 was installed under Big Sur and worked flawlessly. I updated to Monterey a few days ago. A reboot doesn't help. I hope this is resolved soon. In the meantime I use the testversion of Affinity Photo, which works OK.

I just discovered that I was able to start Premiere Elements 2021. I have bought both in one package. Right after the start it offered an update, which I accepted. After the update I can start Photoshop Elements 2021 again.

Ulrich, try to start again. I did so. And the problem will come up again as it was before.
