I recently got a new computer. My old computer would open all newly saved photos in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer upon start up of the program. My new laptop doesn't seem to do that. Anyone know of a change in Preferences that would turn that ability back on? Thanks!

What OS and version of Elements are you using?  If you are saving your photos to a non-default location (My Pictures or OneDrive), you need to add the folder to the Watch Folders dialog under the File menu.

Added:  That dialog does have an option to save the files automatically.  The default option is to notify the user before adding the files to a catalog.  The automatic option does take a little time, depending on the size of your catalog, the number of files added, and the hardware of your computer.

Thanks, Greg. I do save my files to a non-default location and added that to my Watch folders. But the newly added photos still don't open automatically when I open Photoshop Elements (Elements Organizer 21.0.0.0). I have to open them manually by selecting Control+Shift+G and open them one at a time. Doable, but a hassle. I just wish they newly saved photos would open automaticlly when I open the program. But I appreciate your intel.

Can you be more specific as to where you are saving your files to?

What folder structure are you using?

Are the saved files stored on a NAS or other networked location?

I think I understand your confusion.  The dialog that launches with that keyboard shortcut offers you several options.  The Open button is misleading, but is one commonly found in Windows.  If used on a folder, it will either open the folder to display individual files or it will present any sub-folders which then need to be opened.  It is only when you select a file or multiple files in a folder that the selected files will be imported into the catalog. (You are not limited to selecting just one file, using this option.)

However, if you select one of the folders (or multiple sub-folders), you can choose the Get Media button and all of the new files in the selected folders will be imported into the catalog.  (Any files that already exist in the catalog will be rejected as duplicates that have already been imported.)  Also, make sure you check the dialog box to Get Photos from Subfolders if that is what you want to do.

The Organizer does not open files in the traditional sense.  The Ctrl+Shift+G command is used to import files into the Organizer's catalog where thumbnails can be viewed.
