Question

Assigning a "Dummy" Location to Photos

I have a vision of assigning a location/GPS to all my photos so I can easily see if any new photos import without location (i.e. Unpinned photos).  There are some photos that either 1) I don't care where the photo was taken  or 2) I have no idea where the photo was taken.  I thought if I could assign a "dummy" location to a photo, I would then know at I dispositioned its location.

I read of the concept of "Null Island" which is a fictional place at 0 degrees N and 0 Degrees E. Is there a way to assign specific GPS coordinates (i.e. 0 N,0 E) to a photo?  Is there another way to meet my requirement?  (Santa Claus House is a known location in PSE, maybe that would work).  TIA

@brianp60906128, There is a free app called GeoSetter that you can run outside of PSE Organizer that will let you bulk add GPS coordinates to photos.

After you use GeoSetter to add the GPS to your photos, you need to select the photos in Organizer and use the "Update Thumbnail for Selected Items" command via the right-click menu or from the top menu bar: Edit>Update Thumbnail for Selected Items. After the Update Thumbnail process is finished, you'll have the GPS info available to view in the Organizer.

Thanks for the response.

I use GeoSetter to add the GPS info for new photos before I import them into PSE.  (so I am familiar  with the program)

I did as you suggested on a test file and the "Update Thumbnail" updated the GPS data in the Organizer, but the photo is still not pinned in the Places view.  Am I missing a step?

Also, If I use GeoSetter to add GPS info for existing photos, is there a way to filter (from the Media view) the PSE catalogue so only the photos without GPS data are shown (then I can do a select all and "Update Thumbnail"). I could see individually selecting photos I just added GPS data to being pretty tedious.

@brianp60906128, I guess that I should have been more accurate. I was answering your questions. "Is there a way to assign specific GPS coordinates (i.e. 0 N,0 E) to a photo? Is there another way to meet my requirement?"
