Cannot reset Photoshop and Premiere Elements Licenses - Request for simple solution

Explorer ,
Oct 04, 2024 Oct 04, 2024

I have posted extensively about the inability of Chat support to reset Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements Licenses here:

Adobe is of the view that licenses should be managed by the clients on not by customer support. This is ok. However, Adobe does not put the necessary tools at the user's disposal to make this process easy. If the customer wipes a machine without signing out of the app first and then gives it away, the user has no way to reset the license and needs to purchase a new license.

I have spend several hours chatting with customer support and there is no solution that they can offer.

There would be an easy solution. All purchased one time licenses are listed in the adobe account page and the apps can be downloaded from there. If Adobe were to add a button "reset license" next to the download button, this longstanding and frustrating problem would go away (and customer care would have an issue less to deal with).

Adobe, can you implement, this please?

I think with such a "button" would open up a world of misuse-- users would abuse it.   I don't think it's a good idea at all.

In which way would users misuse it? The button would only be available when logged into the Adobe Account page. Next to the download button there would be a button 'Reset License'. After a reset the user needs to sign in with his adobe account again to use the app.

Other softwares use this method to reset licenses.

People would log into someone  elses account (Yeah bro here's my adobe login and password) on a different computer.    I'm not really going to discuss the merits of your opinion- You expressed yours, I expressed mine, leave it at that.

Glenn, currently you can already sign in and sign out on a different computer, or activate and deactivate on a different computer, so not sure how what was suggested above is effectively different from a misuse perspective.

@jacobacci it seems to me that your request has now been implemented for Elements.  Elements 2025 is no longer governed by a serial number.  The licensing is tied to your Adobe account.  So, now, like Adobe CC, it should be possible to deactivate your license from your Adobe account webpage.  (Of course, this change is not retroactive.)

Thanks @Greg_S. that's great. Its seems, Adobe has elected to do a three year term license though, instead of an eternal licenses.

I have Elements 2024 and 2022 licenses and would need the functionality for those.

I have PSE 13 on my PC and my MAC.. My PC crashed and I cannot activate it on my new PC. My Mac still works fine on that same license. Adobe support will not / cannot re-set the license. The only solution they offer is a procedure to

1. launch PSE

2. click on editor

- result pop-up 'sign in required' , button 'Sign in now'

- result: pop-up ' scan QR code on mobile phone or copy internet link provided and launch browser

Both result in signing in / respond with a 6-digit security.

THEN, maybe you can launch PSE.

However, if your PC signs out or sleeps, you must go through the process again.

ADOBE's policy is a HORRENDUS burden to whomever has purchased a legitimate lifetime license for their product.

Has anyone had better luck in dealing with Adobe?
