Canon EOS 5D M4 RAW files VS Adobe Photoshop Elements

This week I upgraded from Canon EOS 5D Mark II to a Mark IV.  Both cameras shoot RAW files imported as .CR2 .  Abode Photoshop Elements recognized images from my Mark II and let me edit them in RAW format.  It will not recognize images from my new camera.  I've tried to interpret Abobe's info at this link: Cameras supported by Camera Raw but still cannot edit my images.  I'm looking for a simple solution so that I can edit RAW images with my relatively recently purchased Photoshop software.

    What is insane is that Canon and other camera manufacturers (not all) create a new raw format for each new camera. Any conversion software issued before Adobe and other editors  can have a production camera and some time to decrypt it will not read the new format.

    Other smarter manufacturers use the univesal and public raw format DNG (developed by Adobe).

    So, PSE14 is too old, just like all versions since PSE1. But...

    The good news is that Adobe provides a free software, the DNGconverter to enable all the old Elements versions to open the newer formats. The software can batch convert a whole folder of your CR2 files to the DNG format that your camera can read and edit. An additional batch step, but free and with the same quality. Link in the faq

    Otherwise, if you like Canon, I believe they supply their own free converter which allows you to convert to the tiff image format you can open in the PSE editor.

    Hi,

    Providing you have PSE 15 or PS 2018 with Camera Raw 9.7 or later, you should be able to read standard CR2 raw files from the 5D Mk IV - check your raw plugin by going to Editor Help -> About plug-in -> Camera raw.

    Hi Brian,

    I have Elements 14, purchased June 2016.  Does this mean I cannot use the Adobe software with my new camera?  That seems insane that $80 software would only be good for 1 and a half years
