Hi,

How do I get the copyright symbol inserted into a blank file. i am using a laptop, I found the symbol in the expert section under custom shape tool. I want to add this symbol in front of text.

Thanks,

Lynda

    Lynda,

If you get the custom shape tool version to work, here are a couple things to keep in mind.

    1. In my old PSE version when I draw out a shape I have to hold down <Shift> to preserve the shape's proportions. It could be your PSE version has some option to preserve the proportions.

    2. I often see "jaggies" on custom shapes, as in this example:

But again, this might just be my PSE version.

If I simplify the shape layer the jaggies disappear:

    Lynda,

You're almost there. Type your text. Click on the copyright symbol and drag it out. Activate the move tool, and position the symbol. You can resize it with the corner handles, if necessary. Note that it comes in on a separate layer (Shape.)

I did that and it did not put anything next to my text, I clicked on the symbol and dragged and all it had was a plus sign no symbol

Well, when I prepared the visual in post #4 above using the symbol in custom shape tool, it actually came in too big. and I reduced the size to what you see.

Try again. With the mouse, left click on the symbol © to select it. Let go.  Then in the work area, left click and drag it out. If your equipment is ok, then it should show up at a decent size which you can tailor to suit.

But what happens when you try the approach suggested by Nancy, i.e. using the Windows character map and drilling down with ALT+0169 keystroke??

Which version of PSE do you use?

    Which version of Windows?

On Windows with Num Lock engaged on your numeric keypad, use Alt+0169 = ©

You would be done by now if you used the Text tool & keyboard shortcuts.

On a Mac, hit Cmd+G to invoke the numeric keys.

Cmd + 0169.   It goes without saying, you can increase the font size as required.
