crash and restore? Elements 11

New Here ,
Jun 11, 2017 Jun 11, 2017

I have Elements 11 and will probably move to 15 soon. BUT, my mac crashed a few months ago. When they did the back up, I had them separate the photos into a separate file on the back up hard drive. I wasn't sure the computer I was going to get would have enough space for the existing photos. I now have the new mac but the photos are on an external drive. Is there a way to connect the Organizer files to the files on the external drive? Is there another option to enable this connection? Thanks!  btw all the thumbnails come up in Organizer but obviously no files are connected because they have all been moved.... ANY help will be greatly appreciated

I understand you are still on your original Mac, after a backup:

- which restored your catalog (since you can view thumbnails)

- and after which the photo files tree was moved to an external drive, not using the organizer for that purpose.

Could you give more details about those two steps?

Michel, no I am now on the new mac. They were able to pull everything off the old one and put it on an external drive for me. But at the time I wasn't sure which replacement I was going to get so I had them separate the photographs (very large component) from the rest of the back up files because I wasn't sure everything would fit. So Elements, Premier Elements, etc all were in the backup file and the photographs are separate. Now I have everything on the new computer except the photographs. I'm wondering if I can leave the photographs on the external drive and still connect them to Organizer on the new computer.
