Diffuse Glow working backwards

I was editing WEDDING PHOTOS, and extremely happy with the Diffuse Glow filter.  Then it just went nuts.  Now, instead of glowing beautifully, the highlights are getting darker when applied, rather than lighter.  PLEASE OFFER SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS! I am DESPERATE!!!

The toolbox color chips need to be a darker foreground and a lighter background.

You can reset the foreground/background colors to Black/White by pressing the D key.
