Element 2023 cannot access raw file of Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera

I recently bought Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera. When I tried to use Element 2023 to open the raw file, it asked me to install plug-in for the raw file. I did it. But it still asked me to do so. I did it several times and got the same results. I had Canon EOS R camera. I had no problem to use the same Element 2023 to open the raw file from that camera. Both raw files are CR3 raw files. Are there diferences between the raw files from the two cameras?

Greg,

Thank you - you are a star!  I did this on a Mac - the file name is different, but the locations and the action are just the same and it worked.

Your new camera requires ACR 15.0.   Elements 2023 only gets updated to ACR 14.4.  (And, yes, there are differences between the files of each camera, even though they both produce CR3 raw files.)

In order to use Elements 2023, you will need to use a workaround to update your ACR to a higher version.  Use the following steps:

  • Quit all Adobe applications.
  • Double-click the downloaded .zip file to unzip it. (Windows might unzip the file for you.)
  • Double-click the resulting .exe file to start the Camera Raw plug-in installer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once installed successfully, close the installer window.
  • Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
  • Copy the Camera Raw plug-in file which is named Camera Raw.8bi, from the CC\File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.
  • Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 21\File Formats.
  • Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin file (Camera Raw.8bi) with the plug-in that you have copied.

I have exactly the same problem.  The installation of the Camera Raw upgrade seemed to go perfectly, byt I stll cannot open my RAW files from the R6 MkII.  That God I have Affinity photo!
