Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

Refer above link. Elements 13 cannot be updated past Camera Raw 9.0 so you'll never be able to edit Raw files from that camera in Elements 13.

You have a couple of options:

    1. Pay to upgrade to Elements 15 and open Raw files in Elements 15, or
    2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter, batch convert all X-A3 Raw files to DNG format. Then edit the DNG files (not the Raw files) in Elements 13. An extra step for you but no extra cost.

So this means that I have to upgrade to version 15 to be able to use Elements to edit my raw files. This means that the product I bought from you two years ago is actually not working anymore, that is really not fair. If I upgrade to version 15, how can I trust that you dont shut down raw compability within the next year or so? Upgrading from 13 to 15 is almost the same cost as buying a brand new 15 version. I feel that I am quite fooled here as a customer.

There seem to be some misconceptions here:

    1. If you buy a new camera, all camera manufacturers have to do is include Save To DNG in the settings and you can edit those Raw files in any version of Elements. Camera manufacturers consciously choose NOT to include DNG in their cameras but they choose to include a proprietary RAW file format (unique to every camera make and model).
    2. Adobe has to play catch up and update its Raw and DNG converters for every new Raw file format
    3. Most of the time Adobe issue free Camera Raw updates to include new cameras. Update your version of Elements and the new camera is included.
    4. Adobe still innovates and issues a new version of Elements from time to time. Raw updates are never made backward compatible with older versions of Elements. Your older version of Elements still works the same as the day you bought it, but probably supports more Raw file formats.
    5. Adobe could leave you in the lurch and force you to upgrade. However, they also issue a free DNG converter. That allows you to convert your Raw files to DNG format and edit the DNG in your version of Elements. The camera makers could have done that in the first place.
    6. So you always have a choice to upgrade Elements or keep your older version and use the DNG converter with it to convert your new camera's Raw files so you can edit the DNG files.

Seems to me that Adobe is the good guy and the camera makers could improve their practices but never will.

I have a Fuji XA3 and says that the raw plugin ver. should be 9.8. My Elements 13 plugin is 9.0.0. I tried to update but it says it is up to date. won't open raw files.
