I've contacted Adobe via chat 5 times now! I've lost 14 hours of work and the last tech just ended the chat without responding or solving my issue. I cannot afford to lose another minute and have the software crash.

Is this happening with editor or Organizer? If the problem is with the Editor application, try resetting the saved prefs. From the menu go to:
Edit >> Preferences >> General (windows)
Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> General (mac)
Click the button to reset the prefs settings on next launch.
