Elements 18 and Ai files

I have PS elements 18 and I cant open any Ai files. I do not have Ai software, but I thought i should still be able to open the files, especially if i can create them? is it possible to make this happen?

Unfortunately, adobe dropped support for AI files starting with photoshop elements 11.

(ai files saved with the pdf compatible file setting in illuustrator will open in pse 2018)

You could use Inkscape to open the ai files and then save them as pdfs which pse 2018 should open.
