elements 2019

I have Photoshop Elements 2019 which I haven't used in a while. It is registered with Adobe. When I tried to open it today, it prompted me to do an update first. Now the photo editor won't open. I get a black bar saying the workspace is opening but then the bar just goes away and the workspace doesn't open. I use this on an iMac with Catalina. Any idea why it will no longer open?
