Error: "It cannot complete your request because it is not the right kind of document" while trying to open Raw (NEF) images [Locked. Duplicate.]

My installation of Photoshop Elements is not working for Raw images. I am getting an error saying It cannot complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. I used to be able to open Raw images earlier. Yesterday I tried to install the camera raw updates, to get new Raw formats, from Adobe site. Since then I am getting this error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Elements, and also uninstalled the camera raw upgrade, but still get the same error.

Hi Random,

What release of PS Elements are you using?

My guess is that your copy of PSE is sufficiently old that any new updates for ACR will not work. If that's the case you have two options: (1) update your copy of PSE, or (2) download DNG Converter, convert your raw images into DNG (this is something that I do because I want to, not because I have to) and then you'll be able to access your images.

Hi

Thanks for replying..

I am using Elements 14. The issue is that I used to be able to open these

raw files before.. However recently I downloaded the Adobe DNG Converter

and started facing issues even with my old raw files

Any thoughts how I can get back to my old Adobe..couldn't find a way to

repair

HI Random,

Can you be more specific as to what's happening? What kind of issues are you having?

Downloading the DNG converter cannot be causing issues with PSE by itself. Have you updated your computer's operating system? Have you updated something else on the computer? Typically these are the kinds of things that can cause "sudden" issues.

I was trying to update Camera Raw from Adobe site to make it compatible

with latest NEF file formats and so tried to install Raw 10.1 and Raw

9.12.1. I also downloaded DNG converter..

Now the issue is, when I try to open any RAW image, even ones that were

earlier opening, PSE gives this error" could not complete your request

because it is not the right kind of document"

I think some underlying library got corrupted somehow

I am on windows 10,
