File sizes extremely large with HD monitor

I recently upgraded to an HD monitor with my new system. I used to have an LED monitor. I am now finding when saving files in 300ppi, the files are extremely large and take up too much space. I like to print my images at 300ppi. Is there a way to change that? I just upgraded from Elements 9 to Elements 2022 last year so I am on a huge learning curve. Thanks for any help.

Hi @maujun. Can you be more precise with your questions?  Do you really mean an HD monitor which has a pixel dimension of 1920x1080.  I am guessing that you mean a 4K or 5K monitor.  Please give us the pixel dimensions of your monitor.  If you are not sure what they are, right-click on your Windows desktop and select Display Settings.  That should bring up  the following dialog.  Tell us what the recommended Display Resolutions is.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the files being too large.  Are you talking about the storage space on your hard drive or the size of the image when viewed on the monitor?  Those are two entirely different things and the size of the monitor has nothing to do with saving the files.

You can change the resolution of the image in the Image>Resize>Image Size dialog:
