Font Style option greyed out?

I've tried resetting the type tool, but the font style option is greyed out for some reason; default setting is "medium" and I can't change that.

What operating system and version of photoshop elements are you using?

What font is it?

Not all fonts have different Font Style Settings., so it would be greyed out if there are no other options than Medium.

Have you tried different fonts?

You are right, it does depend on the font. Times New Roman allows me to change font style but Courier and downloaded fonts do not.
