Freezing and crop tool

I have been using PE 14 for sometime. Recently it is freezing on me, i wait a few seconds and its okay. The second problem is I cant crop anything, seems the crop tool is not working, anyone have an answer?

    Suggest that you reset the crop tool. To do that, on the tool's option bar, look for a box with lines in it on the right. Click to reset.

    If that does not fix it, go to Edit>Preferences> general and look for this:

    I tried everything you suggested, nothing works, still the same problem. I did restart the program, and the crop tool is there and when you go to crop the image, the box surrounds it but will not let me do any cropping.

    Could you test the alternative way to crop?

    - use the rectangular marquee tool to define the rectangle to keep

    - use the menu Image >> crop
