Question

Front is all uppercase, won't go to lower case

This just happened out of the blue this morning, was working fine last night.

The problem is that my text is stuck in upper case.

1. The caps lock key is not on
2. I am not using an all upper case text- it happens regardless of font type
3. I have tried to reset my tools and it hasn't worked.

Any ideas?

Oh and I am using PSE6.0

No, not the tab, the entire editor (or all of PSE, as opposed to the organizer if you have the mac version). You do this as you start the program, not once it's already running.

Okay. I clicked on Create, depressed ctrl+alt+shift, then pressed Edit. I held the keys for 1,5 minutes. Nothing popped up. Is there another way to delete settings?

On my keyboard, those keys are easily accessible by one hand while you use the other to click to start the editor.

Corrupt preferences cause most of the problems in the PSE editor.

Just exactly how are you supposed to do that? I only have two hands. And what the *&%^ caused it in the first place.

Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep holding the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Barbara, I am running E8 on WIN 7 and I have the same caps lock problem stuck on when I am in the Create mode.  I have tried the method you described in this blog, but it is not working.  Is there any other troubleshooting methods other than a re-install?

Thanks

Sue

Yes, I found the appdata and deleted the editor file you spoke of, it did not change anything that I could tell, I can still only type in all caps.

Thank you,

Sue Potter,

Are you able to find appdata?

Check to see what font you are using.  There are fonts that are ONLY upper case.  Using the shift key or the caps lock is irrelevant.  They only type in upper case - no matter what you do with the shift key or the caps lock.

When you design a font, you - as the designer - specify exactly what an upper-case "A" (for example) should look like, and what a lower-case "a" (for example) should look like.  For these fonts, both the upper-case letters and the lower-case letters are the same - "A".  All of the letters in the alphabet were defined to be upper-case letters.

I used to be a professional writer.  I've used at least one such font in the past.

It's possible that you have inadvertently switched to such a font.

Switch to a common font - Times, Times Roman, or Helvetica, and see if the problem disappears.
