How do I use defined brush?

I used the marque selection tool to select something on my drawing of a map.

Then to Edit - Define Brush By Selection, and named my selection.

Now I want to use that saved selection on my map.

I chose the Brush tool in the Draw category, chose my custom selection from the Brush dropdown.

My efforts go down hill from here.

1. My saved brush is in the column with the pixel number - shows as 84 and to the right is a large (84 px) regular brush sample.

2. Put the cursor with hopefully the selected brush on my map to draw - Nothing! Nada! but a faint outline of my saved brush shows when I hold down the mouse button, but only then.

How can I use my brush??
