Hi,

I'm trying to delete all white pixels from my image and make them transparent. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Thanks,

Brandon

  1. Open picture file
  2. Duplicate background layer, shut off visibility of background layer by clicking on its eye icon, work on background copy layer
  3. Access magic wand tool. In the tool's option bar, uncheck "contiguous".
  4. Click on a white area, hit delete on keyboard

There's a freeware filter called "Eliminate White" that will remove all white pixels in an image. I can't say 100% it will work in PSE 8. Note: You only have to install the 8.bf plug in. The other file in the zip is for an old optional PS filter that was never included with PSE.

Note: You have to run this filter on a regular layer...not a locked background. You will find it in the menu: Filter<Transparency<Eliminate White.

FYI...

Make sure you save in a format that supports transparency. If you save as a jpg which doesn't support transparency, the white you made transparent will be back when you reopen your file.
