I am experiencing problems importing RW2 files. I have a Panasonic Lumix GX8 and am trying to import using Elements. I have Camera RAW 9.1.1 installed. Every time I get a message saying the import has failed because either the file type is not supported or it is corrupted.
If in the pse 12 editor you go to Help>About Plug-Ins>Camera Raw, what version does it say?
Since you most likely don't actually have camera raw installed for pse 12, which is only compatible with up to camera raw 8.5, so you'll need to use the adobe dng converter to convert the Panasonic Lumix GX8 RW2 files to dng copies which then pse 12 can open/import.
Or upgrade to photoshop elements 2018.

Yes Camera RAW is 8.5.
