Hello,
I've had it for years and it was working on my old IMac. I'm perfectly content with this program and don't really need anything more since I'm not a professional. I'm getting a 150:30 error message when trying to open the program after migrating it to my new IMac Sierra 10.12.6. Am I simply out of luck or is there a solution?
Thanks...fingers crossed,
Ok my problem has been solved by Adobe Chat Support...even though E8 is an "end of life" product. Here's the solution for anyone else that has encountered this problem.
"Please go to macintosh HD->Library-> Application support-> FLEXnet publisher folder and then copy the FLEXnet publisher folder to the preferences folder in the location macintosh HD->Library->preferences."
Following earlier instructions I had already tried deleting the FLEXnet publishers folder from App Support..that didn't work

Adobe doe not support old software why did you upgrade your Mac OS if you want to use your old Elements Adobe warned user not to.

Because my old Imac was crapping out on me.

Sorry to say that photoshop elements 2 won't work on any Intel processor mac.
The reason photoshop elements 2 won't work on your mac is that pse 2 was made to run on macs with PowerPC processors and your mac has an Intel processor.
Photoshop Elements system requirements
The current version adobe sells of photoshop elements 2018 should run on your mac.

No my old Imac was intel.

It's possible it might have if you had 10.4 or maybe on 10.5 and only if you had Rosetta installed, but nevertheless it will 100% not work on your new iMac with mac OS 10.12.6 Sierra which doesn't have Rosetta and can only run pse versions specifically made to run on Intel processors, those being pse 6 and newer, but you might as well get pse 2018 if want photoshop elements.

Yes I've downloaded and installed the trial 2018. I'm concerned that when I open a dng image it displays at 8bits. In 2.0 they open in 16bit with some filters available. Also I opened psd files and the layers are there but 'flatten/merge layers' was grayed out? Could be learning curve issues on my part. I'll look for other Elements users here. Thanks

Are you sure you had photoshop elements 2?
I was thinking because the error you got when trying to start it and now that you mention opening a dng, you must have had a newer version than pse 2.
As far as opening a dng in 2018, at the bottom of the camera raw dialog you can set the Bit Depth to either 8 or 16 bits/channel.
Also, make sure your in Expert mode so you have access to all commands.

As far as I know no version of Element had 16bit color support. Its Adobe Camera Raw may be able to save 16bit color images but Elements I do not believe can edit these in 16bit color depth mode. I could be wrong for I have not used any recent versions of Photoshop Elements

Yes, even old versions of Elements did support 16 bits editing, but with the known limitation that layers and local tools are only 8-bits.
All global edits are supported in 16-bits as well as many filters. Those are important to justify the use of 16-bits, which is manily useful to avoid posterization. Local tools (sharpening, dust removal, layers in normal mode for compositing don't require 16-bits).
The ACR version of Elements is also limited to the main tools: the 'basic', 'detail' and 'camera calibration'. Those tools work internally the same as in the Photoshop version, that is in 16-bits and 'Prophoto' color mode.
The screenshot from Jeff Arola clearly shows the ACR menu which enables the choice of the image sent to the Elements editor.
I do process all my files (raws as well as jpeg) in the ACR for both better quality and much faster workflow due to the ability of the ACR module to process batches of files. I can open in 16-bits if I want, but there is not much I can do globally that is not already achieved in the ACR module, that's why my default setting is 8-bits.

Sorry to be late with this reply but I received no notifications of new posts...??? Turns out I had Elements 8 and yes is does support 16bit dng. files. Does this mean that I stand a chance of getting 8 to open? If that answer is no then I've been able to verify with the trial version of Elements 2018 has all the bells and whistles that I'm used to. Once I found the expert 'mode.' I'm ok with buying 2018 unless someone think I can correct the problem with E8 opening.
Much thanks to everyone for your help!

Yes there is a chance you can get pse 8 working.
The problem occurred because while transferring (migration) usually works for most software, since adobe installs stuff all over the hard drive and not just in the applications folder like most mac applications, migration hardly ever works for adobe applications.
That's why your getting that error when trying to start pse 8, because some of the required files didn't get transferred over.
Anyway, i'd be tempted just to try running the pse 8 installer from here and hopefully that should work.
You need your pse 8 serial number for it to work.
Download Photoshop Elements versions 9, 8, 7
Then you'll need to follow the instructions here under Creative Suite 5.5, 5, and 4 to get pse 8 installed.

JA, I'm getting a message that 'setup can't be opened because it's from an unidentified developer.' Can I add a developer? I'm ready with my serial number.
Thanks again for your help.
