Lasso tool does not function on scanned negatives

I scanned several black and white negatives.  Every time I attempt to use the lasso tool in the Expert editing mode, I get the following error message: "Warning: no pixels are more than 50% selected.  The selection edges will not be visible"  When I click ok, the lasso tool disapears. How do I overcome this issue?

There probably is not enough contrast between the object that you are trying to select and the contiguous areas. Note that the negatives are monochrome.

Try using a mask to isolate the object from the background.

What version of photoshop elements and operating system are you using?

Sounds like your using a Tool other than the Lasso Tool?

Can you post a screenshot?

For whatever tool your using, check that the Feather in the Tool Options is set to 0 (zero) before using.
