Moving part of a photo

I am trying to move part of a photo to another part of the same photo. How can I do this? Thank you, Alan

Open the picture file
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object
Place this on a new layer (CTRL+J)
Activate the move tool and drag the selection (which should be on its own layer) to the new locus. You can fine-tune the placement using the arrow keys on the keyboard
