NEF Files not opening up in Photoshop Elements with my Nikon D500

Question

I just purchased a new Nikon D500 camera and I can't open up the NEF files in Photoshop Elements. I cant view the thumbnail images in my File Explorer window either.......i can see the images but they all say NEF in the thumbnail. I was told by a Best Buy consultant to download Camera RAW 9.5.1 Installer.  Does it take some time for my computer to catch up with recognizing the installer? silly question I know but I had to ask.....please help.... I have a Nikon D90 and Nikon D300 camera that I shoot in RAW (NEF) also and have no problems.......i've had those cameras for a few years now though..........

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

The D90 was first supported in Camera Raw 5.1 which is supported by Photoshop Elements 7 and later.

The D300 was first supported in Camera Raw 4.3 which is supported by Photoshop Elements 6 and later.

The D500 was first supported in Camera Raw 9.5 which is supported by Photoshop Elements 14 and later.

Which version of Elements do you have? I'm guessing 11, 12 or 13.

Your options:

Upgrade to Elements 15 and open D500 Raw files in Elements, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D500 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNG files (not the Raw files) in your version of Elements. An extra step for you but no extra cost.
