No device found while downloading xD card. What to do?

I have an xD card connected to a card reader. I'm trying to download the photos to PSE 14, but I get an error message "No device found." I tried another card and it downloads. How can I get these photos to download? I'm using a Mac.

    I solved my problem. on the "Elevate Visuals" U Tube video, it was pointed out that I could try pulling the card a little out from the card reader rather than pushing it all in. That worked. On another xD memory card that has scratches on it, I used the USB cord that came with my camera to connect to my Mac and left card in camera.

    That worked. I think now I might need a new card reader.
